Discovering the Unexpected - Tracing the Vibrant Roots of the Putman Heritage Through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Putman

When I embarked on the journey of exploring my ancestry with iGENEA, I expected a straight path tracing back to England considering my Anglo-Saxon-sounding surname, Putman. I was in for startling revelations and surprising turns. From Dutch origins to Jewish ties, Celtic roots to Scandinavian connections, the discovery shed a vibrant light on my heritage.

Having embarked on the genealogical journey with iGENEA, I have unearthed some exciting and unexpected connections to my Putman heritage. Venturing through the labyrinth of my past has been a rollercoaster of surprises with the DNA test casting light onto my old familial ties across the world.

My initial belief was that the Putman lineage originated from England, considering the Anglo-Saxon sounding name. But the iGENEA DNA test unveiled an unexpected revelation - my lineage traces back to the Northern regions of the Netherlands!

The journey to discovering more about my lineage took another unexpected turn. The Putman lineage exhibited strong ties to Jewish origins. This revelation was far from what I was expecting, indicating that the Putmans of centuries ago were practicing Jews, which was surprising because my recent ancestors had no connections to Jewish culture.

The DNA test further revealed a strong Celtic genetic marker. This mutually exclusive DNA variant is often associated with populations in the western parts of British Isles, specifically Ireland and Scotland. Tracing back the lineage, it appears that a branch of the Putmans migrated to these Celtic regions, intermingling with local populations.

The most surprising data, however, was the presence of a Scandinavian genetic component. Could my Viking-esque physique and fascination with epic sagas be a subconscious manifestation of my long-lost roots? The thought of having Viking ancestors was both thrilling and startling.

In essence, the iGENEA DNA test blew out the cobwebs and unearthed some amazing discoveries about my Putman surname heritage. It was illuminating to know that the Putmans were not just Anglo-Saxons but a vibrant mix of Dutch, Jewish, Celtic, and even Scandinavian roots.

I. Putman
